Proverb 23:17 - 18           
Introduction: The bible says that narrow is the way that leads to heaven. Often, believers are tempted to envy sinners because of the present prosperity, happiness, pleasure, profit and honor they seem to enjoy. We are tempted to envy them in our hearts even if we don’t express it with our lips. We are tempted to murmur and think that it is unfair that we should be experiencing hardship while the ungodly seems to be flourishing. We are often tempted to want to emulate them, do as they do, thinking that by so doing we will enjoy the same prosperity and happiness. God says we should not have such thoughts! Because those things we are observing are temporal.  Amen.
1.       Don't envy sinners, but always continue to fear the LORD. – Psalm 37:1, 73:3, Proverb 24:1, 24:19. The temptation is always there to envy unbelievers. We are often tempted to envy backsliders and unserious Christians who seem to be having things easier as they go ahead in life. The enemy will always remind us that it is actually a lot easier returning back to Egypt, the land of bondage, than attempting to get to the promise land.
-          What are your present challenges?
-          Are you secretly regretting the fact that you gave your life to Christ early?
-          Are you secretly wishing that if only it were possible to go back into the world and quickly make some cash and then return to repent and tell God you’re sorry?
 
2.       For surely there is a future – Jeremiah 29:11. The challenge with human beings is that we are not sure of tomorrow.
-          If you are sure that exactly five years from now, you will be living in your own mansion built debt-free, will you still be worried?
-          If you are certain that the brother or sister God has for you will come in exactly 3years from now and that will be the beginning of a lifetime blissful marriage, will you be in a hurry?
-          If you are certain that your business is going to have a major breakthrough in another 5years from now, will you still be tempted to try the devil’s suggestion on how to make money?
 
3.       Your expectation shall not be cut off – Proverb 24:14
